Who can Apply for the Program?
- Applications are welcome from early career clinicians, fellows-in-training, scientists, and other Alpha-1 health care professionals from hospitals, universities and independent research institutes under the age of 40.
- Individuals who are already working in the extended field of AATD as well as those new to the area are eligible to apply.
- Investigators seeking to conduct some or all of their research during the fellowship at another national or international institution are especially encouraged to enter the competition.
What Projects are Eligible for Entry?
- Projects in basic or clinical research aimed at providing new insights into the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical course, or treatment of AATD are invited to enter.
- Proposals focusing on AATD associated diseases such as Wegener’s granulomatosis, vasculitis, diabetes or panniculitis will also be considered.
Profit-oriented projects and projects from other pharmaceutical companies are not permitted.
As a first step, all applicants are asked to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), outlining the aims of their research project. An independent committee, the eALTA Review Team (ART) will review all Letters of Intent and selected applicants will then be asked to submit a Full Proposal for further review. In the final phase of the review process, these proposals will be evaluated in detail according to the Appraisal Criteria, and the two recipients of the award will be selected by the eALTA Review Team.
